Lamaione

Frescobaldi Lamaione is a superb Supertuscan produced by the CastelGiocondo tenuta and made using only the best Merlot from a single vineyard cru. It is the first of its kind to be produced in Montalcino. It is matured for one year in oak barriques and a further refinement of one year in the bottle. The color is an intense ruby red, the aroma is distinct of matured fruits, rich and lingering and on the palate it is coarse and harmonic.

Tasting Notes
A rich ruby red color characterizes Lamaione 2007. The nose is elegant with an impressive array of aromas. The first impressions are of fruit – wild blackberry and blueberry – closely followed by spicier notes of clove, black pepper, and semi-sweet chocolate; and concluding the medley are subtly pungent notes of eucalyptus and star anise. Upon tasting, the wine almost explodes on the palate, with a profusion of flavors and aromas closely mirroring those on the nose. Warmth from the alcohol and a crisp vein of acidity are in mutual balance, while the tannins are emphatic, but fine-grained and velvety. The finish seems almost endless.

Food Pairing Suggestions
Slow-cooked dishes such as pot roasts marinated in the same wine, mushroom-enriched stews, or beef fillet. Enjoy it too with medium-aged cheeses.
