Castello di Pomino, designed by Florentine architect Gherardo Silvani, houses the estate winemaking cellars.
Recognised in 1716 by Cosimo III de?Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, for the excellence of its wines, Pomino vaunts an environment unique for Tuscany: a perfectly-balanced ecosystem of vineyards, fir forest, chestnut trees, and olive groves. The estate covers 1,458 hectares lying along the wooded slopes of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, with 108 hectares in vineyards, at elevations ranging from 300 to 750 metres. The Frescobaldis were the first in Tuscany to cultivate international varieties, planting Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, and Pinot Grigio. Sangiovese is also grown at lower elevations. Thanks to slightly acidic soils and the dry, cool weather of these more northerly areas, these vineyards yield highly aromatic wines of striking finesse and distinctiveness.
The unique qualities of this local terroir and the long history of its international varieties, have won for Pomino official approval of Pomino Bianco and Rosso DOC. The Castello di Pomino estate produces Pomino Bianco, Pomino Benefizio, Pomino Rosso, Pomino Rosso Casafonte, Pomino Vinsanto, and Pomino Vendemmia Tardiva.

Pomino Bianco DOC
A blend of mainly Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco, with small parts of complementary varieties, the Pomino Bianco DOC is comprised of grapes harvested from the estate vineyards of Castello di Pomino, Pomino and Rufina. The Pomino Bianco offers a very appealing and well balanced palate with dynamic finish that recapitulates the aromas of the bouquet.
Pomino Rosso DOC
The Castle of Pomino produces the Pomino Rosso DOC using Sangiovese, Black Pinot, and Merlot grapes. Matured for 15 months in oak barriques and refined for a year in the bottle, the color is ruby red, the aroma is intense and vigorous, and the taste is velvety and persistent.
Benefizio, Pomino Bianco DOC
The Benefizio, Pomino Bianco DOC is the product of the Chardonnay grape variety from the estates vineyard. Fermented and matured in oak barriques for 8 months and refined in the bottle for another year, the wine demonstrates a luminous yellow color with amber highlights. Both the nose and palate experience an intense, complex taste with a lengthy finish.
Pominio Vinsanto DOC
The Vinsanto is produced from Chardonnay and Trebbiano grapes that are left on the vine before being removed by bunches to be hung and dried from rafters for at least 3 months. The grapes are matured and refined in large vats for 4 years, producing a wine of great finesse.
Pomino Vendemmia Tardiva
The Pomino Vendemmia Tardiva is a blend of Chardonnay, Traminer Aromatico, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio from the estate vineyards of Castello di Pomino, Pomino and Rufina. At Castello di Pomino the grapes are not affected by the warm temperatures of the summer. The grapes at this estate are harvested 6-8 days earlier than average. Here again, the quantity is just slightly less than average. The Chardonnay grapes and those cultivated at higher altitudes, 600-700 meters, are excellent in quality. At the winery, the grapes show intense and complex fragrances characterized by an excellent structure.
