Brunello Riserva

Frescobaldi CastelGiocondo Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

The Frescobaldi CastelGiocondo Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is produced in only the more favorable vintage years and in limited amounts. It is matured and refined for 5 years partly in oak barriques and partly in the bottle. The structure is greatly enhanced, yielding an intense, complex wine with a highly concentrated aroma. The result is a well structured, warm and persistent wine, rich and fine in bouquet.

2004 CastelGiocondo Brunello di
Montalcino Riserva Tasting Notes

The 2004 harvest was a very good one with sunny days the latter half of September concentrating color and flavors in the grapes. Wide temperature variations between day and night have given the wine complex and different aromas. In the glass, a strikingly rich ruby-red color greets the eye, its luminosity enhanced by garnet highlights. A multi-layered nose gives an initial fragrant array of fruit, including wild red and black berries dried plum, blackberry, blackcurrant, bottled cherries, and wild strawberry. This gradually yields to spicier notes of vanilla, roast espresso bean, cocoa, and tobacco leaf. A velvet-smooth warmth pervades the palate, which exhibits a judicious harmony of fine, densely-packed tannins, a measure of alcohol, and crisp acidity. A long, lingering finish provides the final balancing component, laden with subtle hints of ripe fruit.
